Gundogan: Germany paying no mind to 7-1 ahead of Brazil match

Ilkay Gundogan does not expect Brazil s World Cup semi-final humiliation at the hands of Germany four years ago to have any bearing when the sides meet in Berlin on Tuesday.

Joachim Low s men sensationally thrashed the host nation 7-1 on their way to glory at Brazil 2014.

Manchester City midfielder Gundogan played for Borussia Dortmund at the time and was ruled out of the tournament through injury, leaving him to watch on in shock with the rest of Germany as events unfolded at the Estadio Mineirao.

We were all sitting in disbelief in front of the TV, the 27-year-old recalled at a news conference on Sunday. Such a result is not commonplace for a World Cup semi-final.

The current Brazilian team is not comparable to that of 2014. The 7-1 is no longer an…

Wolves 0-1 Manchester United: Main Talking Points As Marcus Rashford Fires Erik ten Hag’s Side Into The Top-Four

Continuing on their eye-catching run since returning from the World Cup break, Manchester United picked up a late 1-0 victory away at Wolves on Saturday lunchtime.

With their sights firmly set on securing a Champions League return this season, it was the red-hot Marcus Rashford who fired Erik ten Hag s men back into the top-four after bagging the winner 14 minutes from the end.

Now winning each of their last three domestic outings since returning from the winter interval, the Red Devils also piled more pressure onto a Wolves side that find themselves at the heart of a relegation scrap.

Although Saturday s hosts might have opened Julen Lopetegui s tenure with a last-gasp 2-1 victory away at Wolves earlier in the week, the Oranges certainly came crashing back down…

Mbappe rules out PSG departure this summer

Kylian Mbappe appears to have put an end to all the speculation around his future, at least when this summer is concerned. As relayed by , the France international made it perfectly clear he still dreams of winning the Champions League with Paris Saint-Germain.

Mbappe s contract with the Ligue 1 giants has less than a year left to run, but PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has already expressed a firm stance about not selling their most valuable player this summer.

Having won the 2018 World Cup with France, the 22-year-old is determined to add the most prestigious trophy in club football to his collection as well, and he wants to do it wearing a PSG shirt. PSG came very close in 2019-20, losing the final at the hands of Bayern Munich by a single goal, and they reached th…

Premier League transfer deadline pushed back to September 1

Premier League clubs have voted to push England s summer transfer window deadline back to September 1 for the 2020-21 season.

In 2017, clubs decided to support the closing of the transfer window the day before the Premier League season began, with many managers previously suggesting the uncertainty that accompanied a later deadline was not beneficial.

This measure was brought in ahead of the 2018-19 season and remained in place at the start of 2019-20, but decriers felt it left Premier League clubs at a major disadvantage to European teams, with the other major UEFA nations not bringing their deadline forward.

At a Premier League shareholders meeting on Thursday, clubs voted in favour of pushing the deadline back again, thereby reducing the risk of teams losing …

Bukayo Saka pulls out of England squad through injury

Bukayo Saka will miss England’s upcoming internationals with Australia and Italy, the Football Association has confirmed.

The Arsenal attacker was called up to Gareth Southgate’s squad on Thursday, despite concerns over his fitness after being substituted in recent matches at Bournemouth and Lens.

Saka subsequently sat out Arsenal’s 1-0 win over Manchester City on Sunday with a hamstring issue and club boss Mikel Arteta said afterwards the 22-year-old would have to pull out of the England squad.

Saka met up with England’s medical staff at St George’s Park on Monday and it has now been confirmed he will return to Arsenal for further treatment.

An update from the camp, as withdraws after being assessed by England s medical team.

Tielemans open to ‘everything’ amid future speculation

Speaking to , Leicester City s Youri Tielemans revealed he was open to exploring all the options which present themselves in the near future.

The Belgium international was linked with Liverpool for a while during the summer transfer window, and Real Madrid were later credited with interest as well. According to Fabrizio Romano, many clubs are interested in signing him at the end of this season, when his contract with the Foxes will enter its final year.

The situation would presumably change if the 24-year-old midfielder was to sign a new contract between now and then, but as of yet, there is no such offer on his table.

Tielemans has so far played a total of 113 matches for Brendan Rodgers side since arriving from AS Monaco in 2019, scoring 18 goals and providing…

Getafe 1 Barcelona 2: Valverde´s men go five points clear as Messi and Suarez strike

Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez scored sublime goals as Barcelona beat Getafe 2-1 in a bruising encounter and moved five points clear at the top of LaLiga.

Messi took the initiative on 20 minutes with a trademark moment of brilliance and Suarez plundered a superb volley to double Barca s lead.

Getafe quickly responded with a goal from Jaime Mata but, for all their craft and physicality, they could not claw their way back onto level terms.

With Atletico Madrid and Sevilla having played out a 1-1 draw earlier in the day, the result puts Barcelona well and truly in the driving seat at the halfway point in the season as head coach Ernesto Valverde ended a week of speculation over his future with a satisfying, hard-fought victory.

Seriously though, how good was …

Prediction: Andorra vs England

Best Odds: 1/2

Bookmaker:

Smelling a golden chance on foreign soil this weekend, England will make the trip out to Andorra on Saturday night when they turn their attention back to World Cup qualifying duties.

Andorra

Starting with the hosts, while Andorra might have managed to land a 2-0 victory against Group I whipping boys San Marino on September 2nd, it appears that was just a minor boost for the European strugglers. Last seen getting hit with a deserved 2-1 defeat away at Hungary last month, despite grabbing a late consolation strike, the Tricolours are simply hoping to end this year s campaign with a bounce. However, already knowing that they have stand no chance of securing a spot at next year s World Cup finals, Head Coach Koldo Álvarez has seen his sid…

Klopp´s Liverpool the greatest challenge faced by Man City boss Guardiola

Pep Guardiola regards Jurgen Klopp and his Liverpool side as the biggest challenge he has faced in his managerial career but says going up against Real Madrid made him a better coach.

Manchester City pipped the Reds to the 2018-19 Premier League title in a thrilling race last term but Guardiola s side finished a whopping 18 points adrift of their rivals this time around.

Klopp is a familiar foe on the touchline, with the German having been in charge of Borussia Dortmund during Guardiola s time at Bayern Munich.

Guardiola has faced many rivals as a coach, including legendary Clasico tussles with Jose Mourinho s Madrid during his stint as Barcelona boss.

But the Catalan cannot look beyond this Liverpool class under Klopp as the greatest obstacle he has come…

Bournemouth 1 Tottenham 0: Nine-man Spurs lose to late Ake header

Tottenham still have work to do in the race to finish in the Premier League s top four after their nine men lost 1-0 late on at Bournemouth on Saturday.

Third-placed Spurs would have secured Champions League qualification for next season with victory, but they were brilliantly denied on numerous occasions by 19-year-old debutant Mark Travers in the Cherries goal before spectacularly losing their cool.

Son Heung-min was sent off just before the break, having returned from the suspension that kept him out of the midweek European semi-final first-leg defeat to Ajax, and Juan Foyth – introduced as a half-time replacement – was also trudging down the tunnel just two minutes and 13 seconds after the restart.

And after keeping Bournemouth at bay for the majority of …
